EA sent out a news letter today that includes a huge hunk of information. These include the two contests which I will explain, a new photo that contains an Alien message, a newly released fan site kit, and a article by lead balance designer, Greg Black.
The two contests that EA is giving out to the public is the preorder contest and the wallpaper contest. The preorder contest features a grand trip to EA's next community submit in March. The winners will get:
- Round trip airfare for you and 1 guest to LAX.
- 3 days, 2 nights stay at the Ritz Carlton hotel in beautiful Marina Del Rey.
- Access to the upcoming Command & Conquer 3 Community Summit, where youíll get to meet the dev team, play the game first, and tell us what you think! (Date TBD).
- $200 in cash!
- All applicable ground transportation.
To be entered in the contest, all you have to do is download EA Link and submit all the info you need to preorder.
The wallpaper contest featured by EA lets Command and Conquer fans submit their own wallpapers to EA. EA will pick one of them and put it in the Kane Edition of C&C 3. More information about the wallpaper contest can be found here.
Fan site Kit
The Command and Conquer fan site kit, which can be found here, includes everything that one needs to create a website based on Command and Conquer. It includes tons of concept art, packaging, faction logos, fonts, screenshots, wallpapers, and some stuff that has never been released to the public.
The Art of Balancing
This huge article by Greg Black contains immense information of what we will see when we get C&C 3. It's an excellent read for any die-hard Command and Conquer fan.
Quote:You can find the whole thing here.
The final goal is to attempt to add drama and excitement to the game. It is difficult to quantify, but I attempt to achieve this on the balance side by giving certain specialty units very powerful capabilities and extreme vulnerabilities. A classic example of this is the Command & Conquer Engineer. The Engineer is extremely powerful and able to capture an enemy structure instantly, but it also has massive weaknesses. Itís extremely fragile, it lacks any kind of weapons, itís slow, and relatively expensive. Using the Engineer at all requires the player to take a large risk. It requires the player to effectively make a substantial investment and spend a lot of time micromanaging and protecting their Engineers. The point of all this is to throw the player an occasional curve ball, force them to react to changing battle situations, and to give the player the ability to make the occasional hail-mary pass and come back from seemingly impossible odds.
EA released a new photo of some Alien text. It's supposed to contain a special message about them or the game. They want to see if you can decode it . It's featured at the bottom of the page.
